The New Nook Touch Reader

Touch Screen E-Ink display

The latest Nook is a major upgrade on the original version. The most obvious feature is the touch screen control e-ink display. This is an infra-red display which means that it doesn’t suffer from any lack of sharpness or contrast as was the case in earlier touch screen devices. In fact, the latest Nook’s display is sharp and crisp, and generally extremely pleasant to read on.

Easy and intuitive to use, the touch screen controls also mean that the Nook can be made small and portable as no QWERTY keypad is required. If you do need to enter text – say for a search – then a virtual keyboard will appear and you can use that for data entry.

Faster Page Turns – Less Flashing

However, touch screen controls is far from the only thing that’s good about the new Nook. Page turns are 80% smoother and faster and there’s a lot less flash than with many other readers. You can also use “Fast Page” technology to scan and scroll through books in a way that simply isn’t possible with most competing readers.

Long Battery Life

The new Nook offers a long battery life – ideal if you’re on a business trip or away for a long weekend. Based upon an average of thirty minutes reading a day, you should get a couple of months between charges. Obviously, if you read for longer, then you’ll need to charge more often – but battery life is excellent.

Personalize Your Nook Reader

You have the option of choosing from the standard supply of screensavers or, if you wish, you can upload photos and images of your own to personalize your Nook reader. It’s a nice touch.

Borrow Public Library Books

You can choose from over 2 million books from Barnes and Noble’s, or you can borrow ebooks in the EPUB format from your local lending library. The choice is yours.

Keep Your Books Organized

The “My Shelves” facility allows you to keep your Nook books well organized. Just like a bookcase, you can sort them into categories so that you can find them easily when you want to.
